Jason McLean is President and CEO of the McLean Group and has an interesting corporate bio which you can read here. Jason sometimes describes his role at Blackcomb Helicopters as “running after his brothers Sacha and John figuring out how to pay for stuff”. A recovering lawyer, Jason finds himself drawn into most transactions such as acquiring new aircraft and financing growth. Jason spent his early 20’s thinking he might teach mountaineering and has a very dated set of minor climbing accomplishments to his name. This makes him passionate about the mountains and all of the adventure activities Blackcomb Helicopter supports. As a university student, he worked winters as a volunteer patroller and dispatcher at the Whistler Mountain Ski Patrol and summers with Sacha as crew in the Coast Guard’s Inshore Rescue Boat program. It is strongly suspected that he uses these old experiences to justify his meddling with the company radio system where he can often be heard calling “radio checks” into dispatch. He also describes himself as one of the more knowledgeable “helicopter laypersons” (people with no helicopter qualifications whatsoever). This is likely due to having to listen to Sacha and John and others opine for thousands of hours about aviation matters.
Sacha McLean - Director
Sacha McLean is Vice Chairman of the McLean Group and has an interesting corporate bio which you can read here. In the story of Blackcomb Helicopters Sacha played a central role in putting together the initial company acquisitions that created the modern Blackcomb Helicopters and served as company CEO overseeing major expansion of both fleet and operational capabilities. To this day, he pushes new opportunities and is fastidious about branding. (Try asking him to define “Blackcomb Red”.) Now an experienced helicopter and fixed wing pilot (including jets), back in his early 20’s Sacha used to arrive at work at Vancouver Film Studios each day in a Bell 47-G4A, a “Mash” helicopter on the roof of his office, sporting a dot-com era goatee. To say he has a passion for the helicopter business is an understatement and these days you may see him piloting a Jet Ranger around Sea-to-Sky Country hoping he gets to fill in for a flightseeing tour. While he has many board accomplishments to his name, he is currently President of the Bridge River Valley Flying Association (insert sound of mic dropping). Sacha and Jason have a tradition of devoting vacations to road-tripping around remote airports in BC using the Canada Flight Supplement as a tour guide.
John Morris - Director & General Manager
John Morris is a Director of Blackcomb Helicopters, Accountable Executive, and General Manager. His accomplishments in the aviation industry are well known and you can read more about them here but being the Whistler Base Manager for Okanagan Helicopters in the early 1980’s sometimes gets left out. John grew up in North Vancouver and emigrated to the Republic of Squamish and has since spent most of his career commuting in one direction or another in service of the aviation business, most recently with his own outfit Omega Aviation and then as one of the partners of Blackcomb Helicopters. John is a multi-disciplinary pilot’s pilot and has quasi-photographic recall of operational and regulatory details. This is very useful in the business but can be annoying to his family. He is also the unofficial other lawyer in the law firm of McLean & McLean and has been known to litigate on our behalf. The McLean family holds John firmly responsible for introducing them to the helicopter business starting when Sacha leased him a Twinstar. If John could have a fleet of single type aircraft, it would be composed of the glorious Jet Ranger. A little known bit of trivia: all our directors attended the same high school, but only one of them when it was still a reform school.
Tracy Rogers - Director of Human Resources
Tracy Rogers is Director of Human Resources for McLean Group and all of its portfolio companies.
Prior to joining McLean Group she was Director of HR (Western Canada) for Unisource Canada, Inc., an international distribution company with locations in Canada, the United States and Mexico, where she provided HR direction to more than 1500 employees at 14 different branches and seven unionized locations. She has expertise in employee and management restructuring ventures associated with mergers and acquisitions, and has also been an independent consultant specializing in labour relations, performance management and employment standards.
Tracy earned a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature from the University of British Columbia. She holds a Diploma in HR Management from BCIT and holds her CPHR (Chartered Professional Human Resources) designation.
